Dear friends,

In the Ballroom of the Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center (JCC), an exquisite portrayal unfolds beyond the captivating “Genesis” series paintings. Both the architectural and lighting designs are imbued with profound spiritual significance rooted in Judaism, intricately woven into every detail.

Within the Ballroom, the varying shades of blue serve as symbolic representations of the sky and the ocean – essential elements for human existence yet impossible to inhabit. This serves as a continual reminder to adhere to the divine commandments bestowed by G-d.

Ten towering windows on either side of the Ballroom symbolize the revered “Ten Commandments” received by Moses on Mount Sinai, each adorned with elegant blue curtains.

As one’s gaze ascends, 22 light fixtures come into view, representing the 22 Hebrew alphabet letters. These letters are fundamental for every Jewish person to learn, enabling them to study the Torah and comprehend the laws imparted by G-d to Moses on Mount Sinai. The sacred Torah, a divine gift to the Jewish People, elucidates the genesis of time, the birth of the Jewish Nation, and encompasses teachings along with the 613 commandments to be observed by all Jewish individuals.

Six imposing pillars and arches on either side of the room, totaling twelve, echo the twelve tribes (Shevatim) of Israel.

Adorning the ceiling are four luminous and expansive Stars of David, symbolizing the protection of the Tabernacle during the Jewish people’s desert wanderings in pursuit of Israel, the Promised Land.

Analogous to how wandering Jews encircled the tabernacle for protection, the Four Giant Jewish Stars of David safeguard and bless all who grace our exquisite Ballroom.

Upon closer observation, the precise count of 76 spotlights illuminating the entire ceiling represents Bitachon.

Bitachon epitomizes our trust in G-d, the Creator of the universe. It reflects the Jewish belief in G-d’s optimal arrangement for all things, necessitating wholehearted trust. The 76 spotlights, following ancient Jewish numerology as elucidated in the Torah, correspond to the numerical equivalent of the letters in the word Bitachon. This numerical alignment is a symbolic representation of the enduring trust that has guided our people from the inception of Abraham, the first Jew, 3,833years ago.

For individuals, Bitachon can serve as a wellspring of tranquility and happiness amid life’s fluctuations. Contemplating the profound connection with the Source of All Good and applying that conviction when needed becomes a transformative practice.

This narrative underscores the profound level of trust in G-d within our Jewish Community in Taiwan, manifested in every facet of our world-class and unparalleled Jewish Community Center.

When you step into the ballroom, you are enveloped in divine radiance, and we hope that during your visit, you can palpably experience the blessings and love embedded in this edifice brimming with sacred meanings. With gratitude for G-d’s blessings and guidance, we eagerly anticipate the continuation of our mission in this sacred space, contributing to the interchange of Taiwan and Jewish culture while serving the global Jewish community.
