The Jeffrey D. Schwartz & Na Tang Jewish Taiwan Cultural Association (JTCA) is pleased to announce the donation of $25,000 to Breakthrough Schools. Breakthrough Schools is a non-profit organization offering distinctive school options that prepare students in the Cleveland, Ohio area for success in life. In 2017, a study conducted by Stanford University placed Breakthrough Schools at the top of all public charter schools in Ohio based on student performance.
Breakthrough Schools is comprised of a network of 13 schools spread across 7 campuses and serving 3,900 children from kindergarten through 8th grade. Breakthrough Schools refers to its students as ‘scholars,’ 99% of whom are minorities and 79% of whom come from low income families.
JTCA’s donation was announced as part of Breakthrough Schools’ 10th Annual Breakthrough Bash, their annual fundraising event. The event was streamed live for the first time on January 30, and can be viewed on their YouTube channel here. The event was emceed by 8th grade scholar Millie, and featured interviews with graduates of Breakthrough Schools who have graduated from major colleges and universities in the US, and have launched successful careers in a wide variety of fields ranging from software engineering to aerospace management to movie production.
Breakthrough Schools announced that funds raised during the Bash will go toward “recognizing and rewarding our teachers and front line staff for all their amazing efforts during these challenging times in the form of a gratitude bonus.”
JTCA’s donation toward Breakthrough Schools is aligned with its mission of supporting a range of educational initiatives in Taiwan and globally. According to JTCA co-founder Jeffrey D. Schwartz, “My wife Na Tang and I are pleased to lend our support to Breakthrough Schools through our non-profit organization, the Jewish Taiwan Cultural Association, in recognition of the excellent work they are doing to educate our future leaders in business, government, the arts, and in many other fields. What CEO Alan Rosskamm, Co-founder John Zitzner, and their entire team of talented teachers and administrators have accomplished in establishing Breakthrough Schools as one of America’s leading public charter schools is nothing less than extraordinary. It’s especially gratifying to have the opportunity to support a network of schools that serves children who live in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.”
