Dear Friend,

It’s hard to believe it’s already been 6 months since we opened the doors to our new Jewish Community Center!

Since those exciting first few weeks, we’ve swiftly become the new hub of Jewish life in Taiwan. We’ve welcomed hundreds of community members and their family and friends for Shabbat services and meals. We dressed up for our first festive Purim party, and read from the first bilingual English-Chinese Haggadah at our Passover Seder (230+ guests!)

We shared potentially life-saving self-defense tips at our Krav Maga workshop for women, and NaTang led an inspirational yoga class for courageous cancer fighters.

We’ve taken hundreds of community members and their friends on tours of our unique museum of Jewish art and Judaica, and we’ve broken bread and cheered “l’chaim” (“to life!”) at Taiwan’s first and only kosher dining venue: the Kosher Culinary Lab.

We couldn’t have done any of this without your support, so from NaTang and I, we would like to extend a very heartfelt Thank you / 謝謝 / תודה רבה

Summer is upon us and many of you are taking off to explore the world or see family and friends back home. We are still very much open throughout the summer, so we welcome you to join us for an authentic Israeli-style meal at the Lab, take a guided tour and explore thousands of years of Jewish history, or join us for an inspiring and restful Shabbat meal.

Please do join us as a member so you can enjoy year-round access to all that we have to offer, and discounts on food and services. Just click here for details in English, or click here for Chinese.

Shavua tov (Have a wonderful week ahead),

Kindergarten & Sunday School end-of-year celebration

“Children are the builders of the future,” the ancient Jewish saying goes. This past week, our “builders” in our Sunday School and kindergarten enjoyed a series of games and arts and crafts to mark the end of the school year and the beginning of summer.

Thanks to Rebbetzin Racheli, teaching assistant Noa, and all of our “builders” and their parents who made these past 6 months a fun learning experience for all! See you in September!

Israeli Innovations That Changed the World

Israel is a powerhouse of technological innovation. Often referred to as the “Startup Nation”, the country has more hi-tech start-ups per capita than anywhere else in the world, and is second only to the US as a destination for venture capital funds.

In our new series, which we call “Israeli Innovations That Changed the World,” we will introduce some of the many innovative technologies invented and developed in Israel that are creating jobs, saving lives, and making the world a better place.

This week we featured Watergen, a pioneering Israeli company that turns vaporised water present in the atmosphere into clean drinking water, and SniffPhone, a compact device that can literally smell serious diseases.

Follow our Facebook page in English or Chinese for the latest stories about Israeli innovations.

Talmud in Taipei

Besides the Tanakh (the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings), the Talmud is one of the central texts of Jewish law and life. We recently launched a new Sunday morning Talmud discussion group where we debate some of the central issues documented in the Babylonian Talmud more than a millennia ago. We tackle practical issues that touch on our daily lives. Breakfast is served as well!

Contact Rabbi Shlomi or email us at info@jtca.org.tw for more about this intellectually stimulating and meaningful series.
