{"id":793,"date":"2020-12-16T23:32:57","date_gmt":"2020-12-16T23:32:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/?p=793"},"modified":"2021-01-29T22:31:35","modified_gmt":"2021-01-29T14:31:35","slug":"taiwan-contributes-to-holocaust-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/2020\/12\/16\/taiwan-contributes-to-holocaust-education\/","title":{"rendered":"\u53f0\u7063\u6350\u52a9\u7d0d\u7cb9\u5927\u5c60\u6bba\u6559\u80b2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Taiwan on Monday promised to donate 1.5 million Polish zloty (US$409,931) to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation to promote education programs about the history of the former Nazi concentration camp, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taipeitimes.com\/News\/taiwan\/archives\/2020\/12\/16\/2003748816\">Taipei Times recently reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With Representative to Poland Weber Shih (\u65bd\u6587\u658c), foundation president Piotr Cywinski and director-general Wojciech Soczewica signing a memorandum of understanding in Warsaw, Taiwan has become the first Asian nation to join the organization\u2019s group of donors, the foundation said.<\/p>\n<p>Shih spoke of Taiwan\u2019s resolute support for the \u201chigh value of respect for human rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The nation \u201cstands ready to join global donors in supporting the foundation\u2019s effort to perpetuate the Holocaust sites as the foundation for education and awareness for future generations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on Twitter that it is proud to witness the signing, as the nation is working to bolster its education, remembrance and research on the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>It also quoted Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard\u2019s aphorism: \u201cLife must be lived forwards; but it can only be understood backwards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cywinski said that the foundation, in collaboration with many countries, private donors and local governments, has been able to preserve \u201cthe vast and the most important memorial site in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation has used the time to strengthen the voice of the memorial, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The new programs funded by the donation would utilize new technologies to teach the history of Auschwitz and preserve the memories of concentration camp victims, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The participation of people \u201cfrom the Far East\u201d is evidence that \u201cAuschwitz, as a symbol, has a global meaning,\u201d Cywinski said.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation\u2019s activities are made possible by its constantly expanding coalition of global partners, Soczewica said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe similarity of the challenges faced by today\u2019s young generation in Europe or Asia means for us the necessity to search for common answers to difficult lessons from history,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Funds committed to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation to promote education programs. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":794,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-793","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-taiwan"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/793","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=793"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/793\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1211,"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/793\/revisions\/1211"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=793"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=793"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jtca.org.tw\/Chinese\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=793"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
