This marks our 10th year in Taiwan, but it is my first time in country these days because I usually am in Brooklyn.

Every year, precisely on this weekend -the Shabbat preceding the Hebrew month of Kislev – is a yearly event in which thousands of Chabad-Lubavitch join together for the Annual International Conference Chabad Kinus Hashluchim (gathering of emissaries).

Besides the very long shopping list my dear wife equips me with, I feel like I NEED this trip. Meeting friends from far and near, sharing inspiration and challenges confirms to me that I am fortunate, appreciated and needed. Most importantly, I feel part of this great army whose only weapon is a simple bright smile, (and perhaps a drop of wisdom)! Speaking of the army, the conference’s pinnacle is when gather together by the commander in chief at the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s resting place. Together, we each say our prayers, every individual representing their entire community, city, state, or even country at these auspicious moments.

This year’s Annual International Conference will be hosted on a virtual platform. While interactive events are a far cry from the real thing, it will still serve as a reminder that Chabad is here for every single Jew, from all corners of the world, in all situations. One advantage of going virtual: as big as the gala banquet usually is (7000+ participants), it is still limited to those attending. However, this year everyone can participate: www.kinus.com/grandevent

I hope our next trip will be together with all the Jews of Taiwan and all over the world, toward the promised land and with the coming of redemption!

Shabbat shalom.
