Dear Friend,
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Rosh Hashanah banquet at the JCC. We welcomed 200 members and their families and friends for an inspiring service at our new synagogue led by Rabbi Shlomi, followed by a gourmet kosher dinner featuring beef, salmon, and vegetarian main course options accompanied by home-made chicken soup with matzah balls, hand-crafted gefilte fish with red horseradish, and thick slices of Swiss roll cake with raspberry filling. And of course, plenty of round challah, apples, and honey.
Seeing the community come together on this special occasion was so heartwarming. It was exactly how NaTang and I envisioned the new center would be when we first set out on this journey more than 5 years ago: to create a beautiful space where the Jewish community in Taiwan could find a place to celebrate and observe their rich cultural heritage.
Over the ensuing two days of Rosh Hashanah, the community joined together in prayer in our new synagogue. We were inspired by our guest cantor and his young son who filled our temple with beautiful and at times heartrending melodies.
And now, as we stand at the threshold of Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, NaTang and I, and all of us at the JCC, would like to wish you and your families a “G’mar chatima tova”: May you be inscribed in the Book of Life.

Remembering Dr. Rabbi E.F. Einhorn
On this day, the eve of Yom Kippur, we mark exactly one year since the passing of Dr. Rabbi E.F. Einhorn, our long-time rabbi, at the age of 103.
Our religious, spiritual, and community leader, Dr. Einhorn was also a dear friend. He was there for many of us during our simchas–our happy occasions and celebrations–as well as through some of the difficult times in our lives.
In the next couple of months we will be honoring Dr. Einhorn’s memory at the JCC with the dedication of our library in his name. We will share more information about this in forthcoming newsletters
